What suits a Pakistani mother-in-law
No custom fixes a list for the mother-in-law, and no honest guide should pretend one does. What is documented is the direction of giving: traditionally the groom's family gives gifts to the bride's family, her close friends and even her teachers, and the bride's family does the same for the groom's. So a gift for your saas — or for your future one — fits whichever side you are on.
The safe choices are the ones that belong to her household rather than to a moment: fresh flowers for the room she sits in, a tray of dry fruit and honey, a hamper with a card in your words, addressed to her by name. Before the wedding, the groom's parents and relatives traditionally take or send presents to the bride on occasions such as Eid, and a gift for her mother can go with them.
For your own mother, see gifts for your mother; for both parents together, gifts for parents.
Sweets and a hamper for the chauthi visit
Chauthi is the visit a few days after the wedding. In some families the bride's family visits her at the groom's house, bringing gifts and sweets; in others the bride visits her parents — so ask which your family keeps. A wedding hamper, a chocolate and flower basket or decorated chocolate trays, from PKR 4,500 to PKR 6,000, can be delivered to either house.
For the sisters-in-law: joota chupai, doodh pilai and the mehndi
On the wedding day the bride's sisters traditionally hide the groom's shoes and ask for a ransom (joota chupai), and bring him milk and ask for a gift or money (doodh pilai). For a gift they keep, gajra, corsages and beauty boxes run from PKR 1,000 to PKR 8,200; matching gajra for all the sisters is a single order.
Sending to your in-laws from abroad
Pay from your own country by Remitly, Taptap Send or an international bank transfer — no Pakistani bank account needed. We deliver to their home, or to your own parents' home if your family will carry it over, and you approve a photo of the finished gift before it leaves the studio. The card carries your name, or yours and your spouse's. If the gift is for a wedding, see sending wedding gifts to Pakistan; if it is for your fiancée's family, see gifts for your fiancée.

What do you give your mother-in-law at a Pakistani wedding?
No custom fixes it. Traditionally the groom's family gives gifts to the bride's family and the bride's family does the same for the groom's, so a gift for your mother-in-law fits on either side. Flowers for the house, a tray of dry fruit or a hamper addressed to her by name are safe choices; ours run from PKR 3,500 to PKR 18,000.
Should the groom abroad send something to his future in-laws before the wedding?
In many families the groom's parents and relatives take or send presents to the bride on occasions such as Eid before the wedding, and a gift for her mother can travel with them. If you live abroad, we can deliver to your parents' home so your family takes it, or straight to hers.
What is chauthi?
Chauthi is a visit a few days after the wedding. In some families the bride's family visits her at the groom's house, bringing gifts and sweets; in others the bride visits her parents. Families differ, so ask which yours keeps. A hamper or a tray of chocolates is easy to send to either house.
What are joota chupai and doodh pilai?
Two wedding-day games between the groom and the bride's sisters. At joota chupai they hide his shoes and ask for a ransom; at doodh pilai they bring him a glass of milk and ask for a gift or money. Whatever the groom gives can be presented on a decorated tray.
Can you deliver a gift to my in-laws if I am abroad?
Yes. Pay from your own country by Remitly, Taptap Send or an international bank transfer, tell us the address, and approve a photo of the finished gift before it leaves. The card carries your name — or yours and your spouse's — in your words. Delivery in Lahore is charged from PKR 500 by area.
