An old idea, painted as a woman you might know
Mother Earth is one of the oldest ways people have spoken about the world: the ground that feeds us, imagined as a mother. Painters have most often given her the body of a goddess, made of soil, leaves and rivers.
Hafsa Imran gives her the body of a woman in a white hijab: modest, quiet, the kind of woman who could be anyone's mother. And she hands her the whole planet to carry.
